Riding at Cannock Chase

As a team of riders in the East Midlands, we have become familiar with riding at Cannock Chase over the last four-and-a-half-years.

It is a special place for riding a mountain bike, especially when you set the alarm at 5 am on a September morning and head up to the trails. You can stand in the middle of the forest with the sun rising through the mist, the silence so deep you could hear a pin drop. It’s a magical time to be out on your bike; everything looks and feels different, and every mechanical click is that bit more special. The exhilaration is heightened and your senses turned up to the maximum. For me, this is the best time of the day to be at one with the bike – no distractions, no one getting in the way of your agenda or trying to slow you down when you decide to nail it on one of the many fantastic downhill sections on offer.

Cannock is just down the road from where we are based, meaning we can pop out the door test the bike at any time, come back and report the findings. Through our social media channels, we are always transparent about our development process, believing in an honest approach about how we have come to offer such a high level of bike. It is all down to our passion behind the bars. As we said at the beginning of this process: “If it doesn’t feel special to us. it won’t feel special to anyone else. Let’s start with the perfect bike, and change nothing”.

We have a wide choice of trail types at Cannock Chase, with everything from gnarled rock gardens, fast-paced downhill sections with drop-offs and technical descents, to fast-flowing trails and steep technical climbs. The elevation there is pretty sharp, with a single lap of the ‘monkey trail’ seeing you climb around 1450 feet. It was therefore very important for us to design a bike that was able to climb effectively as well as being excellent on the downhills.

The incredible scenery definitely also helped when photographing the bike. It’s a stunning place to ride, especially when at the top of a 600ft climb. Some of the more densely forested areas have an enchanted feel which adds atmosphere and intensity.

So it really has been an excellent place to develop our bike, and it’s also going to be our local demo area – although in time we will be doing demo days all over the UK.
